THE MUSEUM
Museum in the Sierra de Tramuntana
Our Museum of Footwear and period machinery is located at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana, declared World Heritage by UNESCO, in the small town of Selva where there is a centuries-old tradition in the manufacture of footwear.
The museum has the ideal location and environment, a prestigious shoe factory built in 1978 with the typical architectural design of the time.
In our selection there are pieces of the origins of industrialization in the manufacture of Mallorcan footwear, selected from more than 1000 copies of our own collection and distributed in the same way as they would be in a shoe factory at full capacity.
We also have a chronological exhibition of footwear that starts with some pieces from 1927 to selected pieces of current events. The pieces that make up this collection are survivors of the wear of an intensive use and passage of time. These still endure and are testimony of other times.
A special mention for sculpture (mans, mans, mans, peus) created by local artist Joan Lacomba, this was created to pay tribute to women and men who have worked or are still working in the footwear sector.
